Not Fragile Flowers, but Solid Laws!
Quality of life of women and their families is improved by consistent social policy, not the annual exhibition mayhem with presentation of flowers or poetry reading.
Unequal political representation, feminisation of poverty, family violence and numerous other facts show that there is no real gender equality in Lithuania. This is becoming an obstacle to economic and social development of the society, causing demographic problems and bringing about violations of human rights.
Effective social wellbeing policy, issues of balance of occupational and family life and problems relevant to women in our state, however, are not given priority. Addressing these issues continues to be delayed, with no decisions taken.
The Centre for Equality Advancement invites you to join the campaign Not Fragile Flowers, but Solid Laws!
Its aim is to revive the traditions of the International Women’s Solidarity Day and to proclaim the 8th
of March the Day of Debate and Adoption of Laws Important to Women at the Seimas of the Republic of Lithuania
Please send letters and e-mail messages to the Chairman of the Seimas of the Republic of Lithuania, the Board of the Seimas, Women’s Parliamentary Group, members of the Seimas and urge them to take this decision.
Flowers fade, but laws can be made to work!
